Smart cats

My cats seem to Know that something soon is going to happen and they will not have their momma around.  Mikhail and Stella have been sticking close.  

Checked the Weather Channel for the Glasgow forecast for the next 10 days - rain, rain, showers, and more rain 😬

All the stuff is stuffed into ziplock bags and are now stored in the backpack.  The trekking poles have bubble wrap around them and they are stuffed into the backpack with extra cushioning top and bottom.  The backpack is now stored in the outside bag to be checked for the flights.  Duct taped has been liberally applied around the flight bag to reinforce everything when those airport baggage handlers start flinging people’s possessions into the bottom of a long tube that flies.

Day 31/32, Sunday, July 7, Monday, July 8.  Glasgow - Amsterdam - Minneapolis - and finally Stevens Point.   Day when the sun never set.  Sort of like the British Empire, where the “sun never set” on all the lands they controlled at the height of their reign over the world.   Walked to the Buchanan Bus station.  Collected  from a Greggs Cafe a coffee and breakfast bun (not very good and don’t regret leaving British ‘bacon’ behind).  Rode the last bus ☹️.  Arrived at Glasgow Airport too early (typical of this person who is always on time).  Couldn’t go through security for two hours.  Hung about with more coffee, browsing abandoned magazines, and people watching.   Almost everyone had to have their photo taken with Oor Willie, who is a character from a popular comic strip. Typical Day in the Scottish Highlands

Day 12 Walking, Monday, June 17, Bracarina House, Invermoriston to Fiddler’s at Oakdale, Drumnadrochit, 14 Official miles, but my route was shortened by taking a bus to Alltsigh that cut 5 miles off...but the feet did walk 9 miles in 5 long hours.  And 27417 Steps  Richard and Heather my hosts were very chipper in matching purple shirts and aprons this morning. It was Richard who suggested the bus alternative to help save the heel torture.   Breakfast was scrambled eggs with salmon on top.  Plus a hot homemade scone was hand delivered by Richard, which I was encouraged to take in a plastic bag for “elevens” (morning tea/coffee break).  Put 3 pats of British butter on it and also took 4 of the little wrapped cheeses.  Returned the house-loaned croc shoes to the drying room and collect my warm boots.  Depart.   The pack and I were having a ‘time-out’ from each other on opposite side of the path.  Enough is enough.   While waiting for the C...

Feet Traveled in Comfort the Great Glen - glen and past Loch Lochy

Day 9 Walking, Friday June 14,  Distant Hills Guest House, Spean Bridge to Forest Lodge, South Laggan 12 miles which were easily covered via bus.  12,034 Steps  Lochaber Area of Scotland.   Dinner last night for 5 £.  Side of cooked vegetables, but no potatoes (my request), carrots, red cabbage, white cabbage, and an amazing salad with lots of good green leaves and other raw veggies.  Portion sizes were crazy large, and couldn’t finish it all.  Lots of advice last night from the homefront about what to do with the foot, and everyone’s diagnosis of the problem. Tried ice, tried hot hot wet cloth applied, elevation, ibuprofen, rolling the foot out over a ball - no balls around but the bottle of soap from the bathroom worked fine.  Felt a bit better.  Doesn’t seem at all puffy tonight.  Besides the fruit and cereal buffet at breakfast, which of course a small sampling was taken, I chose Scottish pancakes with whip cream and fruit.
